Life Beyond the City

In June I attended the MN Rural Health Conference in Duluth, MN. The focus was on education and accessibility of Mental Health, Healthy lifestyle choices, and Aging in rural MN. I grew up in the nation’s capital and have spent most of my adult life in Minneapolis, so my firsthand experience with life in any rural community is nonexistent.

Besides attending some good breakouts, the conference provided awareness for individuals like myself, who have multiple healthcare options, abundant healthy lifestyle choices and more resources than most of us are aware of or could utilize.

The conference showed how we are, and the importance of continuing to, Invest in ways to bring education, healthy choices, and good care to these communities.

The opening keynote speaker, Toby Freier, President of New Ulm Medical Center, talked about how New Ulm, a small town in southwestern MN, is changing the community culture for the better. The following link provides an outline of what they have accomplished and how, it is worth the watch.
