Stone Soup

I often refer to the old French tale “Stone Soup” written by Marcia Brown in 1947, when talking about teams. Three hungry strangers wander into a small village, the village people barely have enough food to feed themselves. The strangers tell of a delicious soup made with stones, which intrigues and engages each person as they rush home to gather something little to contribute to the soup. Together they create a glorious feast for the whole town.

In years of project meetings, I have found that it is often the simplest idea put forth, which spark contributions from others, that manifest into a great idea or solution. No one person has all the answers, remember to harvest the wisdom in the room.

“We develop, in part, by responding to the contributions of others, and in turn we provide others with material to which they respond.” Elliot W. Eisner
